Frances Miller, of Medicine Hat, is a staunch supporter of the Royal Family and would like a personal moment with Prince William and his bride when they visit Calgary next month.
Miller, who is now 81, was chosen to represent the people of Walsh, Alta., in 1939 and hand a bouquet of flowers to the Queen Mother, who was travelling across Canada on the royal train with her husband, King George. The entourage was supposed to stop briefly in the small town.
But the 9-year-old Miller was left forlorn when the train didn’t stop due to a communications glitch. Miller, beautifully dressed and her long hair curled, was left holding her flowers as everyone assembled on the platform could only wave to the King.
Miller has photographs of the event and a nice letter later sent to her from Buckingham Palace. The Queen Mother died in 2002.
Angus Henderson, a senior reporter with the Medicine Hat News, is spearheading an effort to arrange a meeting with William and Kate. William, second in line to the throne, is the Queen Mother’s great-grandson.
